How do we improve service with a user-friendly and secure check-in process? Meet the Roompot digital key. With the native app, travelers can check in easily and securely.
The goal of Roompot is to give end-users the best experience and provide them with a care-free vacation. They discovered that the check-in process could be more efficient. How? Digitalizing the entire process by means of a user-friendly app.
By means of an IoT solution, we make this dream a reality. Visitors manage the holiday cottage from booking to check-out thanks to a digital key. Because of this, visitors can go directly into the cottage upon arrival without first passing by the reception.
To offer the best performance, the IoT app was developed using native technology. Additionally, the app makes use of a BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) connection with the lock. The data is encrypted in such a way that the user's safety is guaranteed. Coffee IT has also been responsible for developing the SDK. This makes the technology easy to integrate within the proprietary app of Koole Controls, the party responsible for the smart locks.The Roompot Digital Key app ensures fewer touchpoints, ultimate ease of use, and more efficiency for the cleaning crew. The visitor no longer needs to go to the reception.

Het project duurde 3-4 maanden
Een belangrijke learning uit dit project is dat gebruiksgemak en betrouwbaarheid hand in hand moeten gaan bij kritische functies zoals toegang. Zo is offline functionaliteit essentieel tijdens het reizen en is security, zoals AES-encryptie, cruciaal bij digitale sleutels. Daarnaast is Bluetooth-communicatie complex en moet dit uitgebreid getest worden, terwijl IoT juist waarde toevoegt wanneer het onzichtbaar en ondersteunend werkt. Het project laat zien dat door technologie slim in te zetten een traditionele ervaring volledig kan worden getransformeerd naar een frictieloze en digitale beleving.
Het platform is succesvol gelanceerd bij het Beach Resort en inmiddels uitgerold naar meerdere Roompot parken. Gasten kunnen vooraf inchecken, direct doorrijden bij aankomst en hun accommodatie openen zonder langs de receptie te hoeven. Dit zorgt voor een snellere, comfortabelere en modernere start van de vakantie. Daarnaast draagt de integratie van IoT en digitale services bij aan een verbeterde totaalervaring tijdens het verblijf.

Roompot
De grootste technische uitdaging zat in de toegangscontrole. Het openen van een slot via Bluetooth moest:
- Veilig zijn
- Snel reageren
- Werken zonder internetverbinding
- Bestand zijn tegen misbruik
Door gebruik te maken van een custom Bluetooth protocol met AES encryptie konden we een veilige en betrouwbare oplossing realiseren.
The feeling of safety is important with something as personal as access to your holiday home. Therefore, the app has a custom protocol built into the UX so that users experience extra security. The door is unlocked with a finger on the 'unlock' button, after which a green hover with a vibration function is activated.
With the push of a button, the vacation can begin. Easy onboarding with the reservation number and pin code that is sent to the specified email address. The Roompot Digital Key is the first step of Roompot in integrating Smart Home technologies into the holiday park.
