Do we have a big problem now that 90% of all employees and students are at home? Or does this all seem okay? Kimnet research has shown that 55 to 70% of all home sitters have a positive experience of working from home. There is a good chance that after the corona crisis we will stay at home a few days a week.

But how do you respond to this as an educational institution or course agency? We as app developers of education apps answer this in this blog.

Do you want to have a educational app to develop?

More and more educational institutions and course offices are looking for new ways to teach online now that working from home is becoming a well-known phenomenon.

You can share lessons, videos and tests via a platform. Users can log in with their data in their own environment.

A major advantage of online education is that everything can be measured much better. If a student has difficulty with a certain component, he can immediately receive extra support. Other students who have mastered this part immediately can move on to the next subject.

A develop apps for online courses

You may be familiar with some online platforms such as Udemy en Skillshare. These are large platforms with a huge range of courses. The courses are used by both students and adults. According to it CBS 1 in 5 adults use a platform for online courses. During the lockdown, online courses have only become more popular.

It has huge potential to develop an educational app or platform for adults or students. You can offer all your courses on this and even collaborate with other entrepreneurs who can offer their courses on your platform.

Elementary school education platform

An education platform for primary school is of course very different from a platform for MBO, HBO or university. Here we look at the possibilities of creating a school app for primary schools.

An app for the classroom can help students with learning. And using apps or platforms at primary school is closer than you might think. I spoke to a teacher who supervises all her students in group 4 via the Chromebook.

Learning platforms can be used in any group. For example, each group has its own exercises that match the math level or reading level. We have already briefly discussed this, but every student also has their own level. For example, children who have difficulty are guided with extra exercises and explanations, and the excellers are given more difficult assignments or move on to another assignment.

Normally you should give equal attention to every child, both the excelling and the children who have more difficulty learning. Now every child gets the same amount of attention and there is still personal guidance. This also reduces the pressure on the teacher and that is also important since the workload in this sector is extremely high!

An example of a learning platform is Examenoverzicht. You can see the image below. We will tell you more about this learning platform later in the blog post.

Educationplatform for MBO, HBO or university

Educational apps that help you with history or advanced math, for example. There are already enough courses for this, but schools can also use this. Now that studying online after the corona measures is likely to continue, it is smart for a school to respond to this in advance. For example, look at our web apps where students can log in via the website and immediately follow the course material.

As a student you often have to travel far to go to school. For some students this is an hour and for others it is 3 hours (back and forth). If this is for a lecture, this can be quite demotivating. It is then ideal if you can also follow the lesson via an online platform.

One of the biggest advantages is that you can measure your progress. According to the Dunning Kruger effect, it is very difficult to know your own weaknesses. When data shows what you still need to pay extra attention to, you develop much faster as a student. This is a huge advantage of an online learning platform or app. And with that I also want to go straight to the next chapter!

Why one educational app have it made?

By using data to gain insight into what we need to pay extra attention to or what we can already do, it helps to develop a student. And this is perhaps too high a handle for primary school, but as described earlier, it can also be applied here.

An example of an app we made is ExamenOverzicht. Here students can see exactly what their average is for each subject and purchase a summary via the e-learning platform developed by us. Now in the blog we have been very enthusiastic about having an educational app made. But let's weigh the pros and cons.

Advantages of an online learning platform

  • Easily follow lessons remotely
  • Each student receives personal guidance
  • The pressure on the teachers is decreasing

Disadvantages of an online learning platform

  • Less personal guidance
  • Platform maintenance
  • The lessons must be converted to a digital form

Another indirect advantage of taking online lessons is that traffic jams are considerably reduced. Because 90% of people now stay at home and after the corona crisis probably 50%, the roads will be a lot less busy.

How can you learn online through a app or platform?

To give an example of this, we take the app ExamenOverzicht that we have developed. The mission of ExamenOverzicht is that every high school student passes his or her exams. For this they have had an app made in which all exam material can be bundled in clear and understandable summaries.

In the app, all students are prepared for the final exam. Students can indicate their package of subjects and grade list. In this way, the app immediately sees which subjects are most important and which need extra brushing up. The app shows when your exams are so that you can adjust your schedule accordingly. In this way he works step by step towards a goal.

ExamenOverzicht features in-app summaries, glossaries, practice videos, learning tips, and past exams. The educational app is therefore fully in line with the traditional exercise material.

Developing an educational platform or app in a nutshell

Let's summarize the whole story. Now that we know that there are many positive reactions to working from home, we know that this will probably continue after the corona crisis. Or in a form of three days at home, two days at the office.

In addition, a learning platform supports the students by offering extra help. This also relieves the teachers' workload.
