Important! Apple announces new guidelines for apps in the Apple App Store

Hello app partners,

Yesterday on June 3, 2019, at the WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference), Apple announced a number of changes that may affect how your app works. As a partner in app development, we believe it is important to inform you of these changes. In this news article we inform you of the most important changes.

Tightened guidelines

Apple has introduced new guidelines. In particular, the collection of data from app users and the method of logging in will change. The most important guidelines with the greatest impact for the iOS framework:

  1.  Users should be given the option to sign in with an Apple login if a third-party option is present. Users can choose not to log in with social media channels anymore, but with the new Apple login.
  2. Apps must obtain permission to collect data, even if the data is considered anonymous at the time of or immediately after collection.
  3. Apps that collect information from any source other than the user's direct or without the user's explicit consent, even public databases, are not allowed in the Apple App Store.

Wat nu?

Can your app be downloaded from the Apple App Store? Then the above integrations are necessary. If desired, you can contact record with us. We then check whether the app meets these new stricter guidelines from Apple. We can also add the extra feature of Apple's new single sign-in. When this feature should be available is estimated by Apple at the end of this year. Apple has indicated that if the app does not meet these conditions, the app can no longer be downloaded from the Apple App Store. Later this year it will no longer be possible to push updates without the integration of the above points.
