Hurrah! Last Saturday, the Rijksmuseum Boerhaave was chosen as European museum of the year. The renovated museum has won the European Museum of the Year Award. A European jury has chosen the science museum from about forty nominees. We would like to congratulate the Rijksmuseum Boerhaave on this great achievement! The Rijksmuseum Boerhaave in Leiden won this prize because of the innovative way in which they use the latest technologies and personal stories when showing the collection. The renovated museum renewed the exhibition to present science and medicine in an innovative way. The jury called the renewed exhibition 'science with a human face, which inspires curiosity and amazement, while also involving a wide audience in the debate on important scientific and ethical issues of our time'. Okay, but what about the app?
The museum recently underwent a thorough renovation. The presentation of the permanent collection is now arranged on the basis of five themes that can be discovered by the public in an interactive way. Visitors can touch replicas, view digital magazines and play educational games. At Coffee IT we have been asked to make all this possible for foreign visitors to the Rijksmuseum Boerhaave. We have developed an Android app for the museum that helps foreign visitors to navigate through the museum and translates all information.
